We are a lending library in one room. We keep the least we can, we keep it to run the library, and we do not sell any of it.

If you are only reading this site

You do not have to tell us anything, and there is nothing to sign up for. We count visits with two services: Google Analytics, and Ahrefs Web Analytics. Between them they tell us which pages get read, what kind of device people are on, and roughly which city or country a visit came from. That is usage patterns, not people. Neither one is given your name, neither is used for advertising, and there is no advertising anywhere on this site.

Google Analytics sets two cookies in your browser so that it can tell a reader coming back from a reader arriving for the first time. Ahrefs sets none. The cookies page lists both of them, says how long they last, and explains how to refuse them.

Our host, Cloudflare, keeps short-lived technical logs of requests, as every web host does, to serve the site and to keep it up.

If you are a member

Membership is done at the desk, on paper and in conversation, not through this website. What the librarian records in the register is:

That is the register a library has always kept. It is here so that the librarian knows where the books are and so that your own page can show you what you have.

Your page, and the link to it

Members get a private link to their own page. It works without a password, which means anyone holding the link can open that page and see that member's loans. Treat it like a key: do not post it publicly. If you think the link has got out, tell us and we will issue a new one, which retires the old one.

Who else sees it

The librarian, and nobody else. We do not sell, rent, or share the register, and we do not send marketing on anyone else's behalf. The data sits with Cloudflare, who host this site and store the database for us. Government school students who borrow free are recorded the same way as everyone else, and are not reported anywhere.

How long we keep it

Member records are kept while the membership is active and for a while after, because members come back after a gap and it is unkind to make someone start again. Ask us to delete yours and we will, once any borrowed book is back on the shelf.

Asking us about your data

Ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Do it in person at the desk, or get in touch. There is no form and no ticket number, it is a conversation with the person who keeps the register.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, the change will be described in the blog rather than quietly swapped in.
