The room and the register

About the library

Ltd ED is short for Limited Edition — which is an honest description. This is a small room in Tharamani, near the Panchamukha Hanuman Temple, holding 715 books chosen one at a time: full runs of the children's series worth finishing, Tamil short fiction worth rereading, and classics worth owning but better borrowed.

The register is kept by hand and every book has an accession number. The owner reads what goes on the shelf and writes about it — in Tamil and English — on the blog, and picks onebook each week to press into someone's hands.

Membership is capped at 150. Not as a gimmick: a lending library this size works on trust, and trust works at a scale where everyone's name is known.
